Rebranding St. John’s College

A modern take on the College seal, complemented with a redrawn wordmark and an updated color palette, the new identity balances the desire of a majority of alumni to reclaim St. John’s visual heritage with the desire of mostly younger alumni for a cleaner contemporary style.

A new typeface is used in the college motto. Neutraface, it’s worth noting, is based on the design preferences of architect Richard Neutra, who designed the Annapolis campus’ Francis Scott Key Auditorium and Mellon Hall.

St. John’s heritage is restored with the newly-redrawn seal and a strong emphasis on orange as a primary color.

Recruitment materials boasting the new colors and new typography were rethought as a series of 7 viewbooks to represent the 7 liberal arts.

A redesigned alumni publication explore how alumni are living and modeling the Program in meaningful ways. The publication investigates the connections alumni are creating around the world, and is a guide to making them even stronger.

St. John’s College is the third oldest college in the United States (reportedly behind Harvard, established in 1636, and College of William and Mary in 1693).
