Colburn
A capital campaign for the next generations of dancers and performers in Los Angeles.
This is what happens when the world’s greatest architect meets the next generation of aspiring artists in the creative capital of the world.
Frank Gehry’s “cloud structures”, designed for the Terri & Jerry Kohl Hall, were inspired by the surrealist paintings of René Magritte, which in turn inspired the campaign theme.
Transforming 51,000 sq ft of asphalt into 100,000 sq ft of creative facilities and 14,000 sq ft of green space for Los Angeles.
Colburn has a long-held dream to build a major theatrical space that would prepare young musicians and dancers to perform on great stages around the world.
For 70 years, the Colburn School has upheld the foundational tenet that all who desire to study music and dance should have access to do so at the highest levels regardless of financial circumstances.
“You are a dream to work with. Timely, professional, beyond creative, while totally pragmatic, optimistic, and accommodating. You “get” the challenges of the cultural landscape, local “scene,” fundraising demands, audience development, and how to balance this all to work within a challenging, dynamic, lean environment.”
— Annie Wickert, Senior Vice President, Philanthropy at Colburn
